I spoke on a panel the other day to a group of budding Venture Capitalists. The subject was entrepreneurism. One of my fellow panelists, Will West, Founder of Ibahn and Control4, spoke about what it takes to win as an entrepreneur. His take was that the #1 characteristic of a successful entrepreneur is Persistence.
Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
Imagine a classroom environment where instead of having video games interfering with classroom instruction, video game technology is at the core of your instructional paradigm. Video games are a dominant form of entertainment today because they are immersive, exciting, motivating, and often collaborative but no one has really taken that model into the classroom.
As one leader in the education field said:
“The VIEW takes unique advantage of gaming technologies to empower teachers with learning tools that are modern, engaging and effective.”
Dr. Bradford discovered through her PhD studies that students who learn in a 3D virtual game environment can have higher learning outcomes and do so at fraction of the cost of traditional brick and mortar.
The VIEW has a series of the most advanced 3D virtual educational environments on the planet. This cloud-based platform is quick to setup, easy to use, and less expensive than alternatives. Instructors can upload their content and interact with students in a synchronous classroom environment – raise their hands, watch videos, write on group whiteboards, and see PowerPoint presentations (and return on their own time to review the classroom instruction). The company has even built a number of 3D campuses. The platform has applications across higher education, corporate training and instruction.
I am grateful for Linda and the example of persistence she has set in our home. She is the real entrepreneur and a darn successful one at that!
